Hello and welcome to the Parish of North Lake, New Brunswick, the biggest little parish in York County. Thank ya all for coming by. Cool

Click on surnames in the menu to access over 10,000 names in the database, many with added information such as obit, memories, pictures, scrapbook mementos, etc. As usual, there are a number of individuals names marked private in accordance with their desire to remain anonymous.

Occasionally, I get a question from someone such as: I never heard of North Lake. So why is my name (or my family's) included here?

Names are included here based on two criteria: either they (or their family several generations back) lived in North Lake; or there is a link to me. Probably more like an invisible thread, than a link. For example, my uncle married a Foster. Her sister married a Gorman. The Gorman children married....get the picture? So, if we go back to 1783 when my ancestors came to NB from England via Rhode Island and their children married and expanded across the country, some 8 or 9 generations later, the people never heard of me - their cousin - or North Lake. Probably New Brunswick doesn't ring a bell either. Canada? Maybe

Rest assured, if your name appears on this site, it is because of one of the reasons just mentioned.

Pet Peeves and Rants PDF Print E-mail

As I was about to leave the local java shop the other day, the waiter said, "Have a nice day!"
I stopped and looked at him for a second or two, then replied, "And you have a nice bowel movement".
He looked bewildered. "What?" he said.
"Pal", says I, "I've got as much control over your bowels as you have over my day; so let's both forget the whole thing and get on with whatever each of us DECIDES to to."

Along with this HANDS malady (Have A Nice Day Syndrome), many people are inflicted with a few other banal, meaningless, inane statements.
  • "How are You? (Are you really interested? If so, I can give you a copy of my doctor's latest report, let you read it and answer any particular question you might have.)
  • "See you later." (Oh? Are you coming back?)
  • "How ya Doing"? (Compared to what? A bankrupt neighbor? Cockroach? Chuck Norris?)
  • "Thank you for calling _____; your call is important to us. Currently all our _______ are busy with other _______ ....." (And then you wait for a day and half while this "important caller" goes nearly insane listening to god-awful music or mind-numbing ads)
Got some pet peeves of your own? Got a rant?  Share it with us.

So, who will be first? Just go here, click on comment below, and type away. We look forward to hearing from you.

These memories are a provincial treasure, a rich tapestry of humanity and part of the shared legacy of Western New Brunswick's participation in the rum running trade of the Prohibition years.

The Volstead Act, was introduced in 1920 prohibiting the populace of the United States from making, selling, distributing or imbibing in any form of alcohol between the years 1920 and 1933.
