the passing of Doris Helen Smith of Charters Settlement, N.B.,occurred at York Manor Nursing Home, Fredericton, on Wednesday June18, 2003. Born July 9, 1918 at North Lake, N.B., she was a daughter ofthe late Floyd Cosman Smith and Amey Etta (Boardman) Smith. She was aretired teacher having taught school in New Brunwick. She was alsoemployed with the Compensation Board in Saint John, N.B. Baptist byfaith, she was a member of the Skyline Acres Baptist Church, a memberof the Mary and Martha Group at the church and she was a member of theCanadian Baptist Overseas Mission Board.
Survived by a sister, Myra Gladys Smith; two nieces, Judy McWaid(George) of McLeod Hill and Corliss Pyne of Charters Settlement; greatnieces and nephews and two great great nieces.
Predeceased by her parents, a sister, Shirley Louise Pyne and a nephewA. Charles Pyne II. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstockroad, Fredericton on Friday evening from 7-9 pm. The funeral servicewill be held from Bishop's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday June 21,2003 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Karl Csaszar officiating. A wedding of interest was solemnized in the church at Eel River Lakeon June 6th when Dorothy Marie Smith, youngest daughter of Mr and MrsEric Smith, and Norman Roland Bronson, son of Mr and Mrs ErnestBronson, Beebe, Que., were united in marriage by Mr. Mark Bredin ofN.B. Bible Institute, Victoria, N.B. by a double ring ceremony.The church was prettily decorated with purple and white lilacs andferns.
Miss Edna Jennea of NBBI was guest organist and Mr Joseph Wootton,also of NBBI was guest soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was becomingly gowned in afloor length dress, with slight train of white brocaded taffeta andnet; the fitted bodice was decorated at the neckline with pearls andrhinestones and had long fitted sleeves. The skirt was full with tiersof flunces, leaving a straight front panel. She wore an elbow lengthveil, held in place by a tiara of pearls and sequins and she carried abouquet of pink roses on a white Bible with pink streamers androsebuds.
She was attended by her sister, Miss Alma Smith, who wore a ballerinalength gown of blue chiffon and lace over taffeta with whiteaccessories and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink and whitecarnations.
Little Beverly Anderson, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She worea short yellow dress of flocked nylon with white head dress and glovesand carried a basket of mixed tulips.
Clinton Boone, of Florenceville, was the groomsman.Charles Atkinson, cousing of the bride, and Donald Sequin,brother-in-law of the groom, were the ushers.
The bride's mother wore a two piece dress of blue silk with blue andwhite accessories and the groom's mother wore a two piece dress ofblack and white arnel with white accessories and both wore a corsageof red roses.
The reception was held in the United Church Vestry at Canterbury,where seventy-five guests were present.
Miss Doris Smith of Saint John and Mrs Charles Atkinson served thebride's table while the ladies of the church served the guests. MrsRalph Sypher of Newcastle Creek presided at the tea table. Miss ArdisBoone, cousin of the bride, circulated the guestbook.
Aftern an old fashioned charivari the happy couple left for a shorthoneymoon to St. Stephen and St. Andrews. For travelling the bridewore a grey tweed wool suit with pink accessories.
The bride is a graduate of Canterbury Regional High School, also ofNBBI and Teacher's College and teh groom is a graduate of Beebe Highschool and NBBI. They will be working this summer at Frontier Lodge, achristian camp for young people and children, and later take apasorate in Ayers Cliff, Quebec.
They were the recipients of many beautiful gifts. Guests were from EelRiver Lake, Canterbury, Newcastle Creek, Fredericton, St. John,Harvey, Woodstock, Victoria, Philadelphia and Quebec.

Hedley W. Smith, 68, owner and president of H+S Smith EngineeringServices Ltd., died peacefully on December 15, 2006, after amercifully short battle with cancer. Hedley was born in 1938 inCanterbury, New Brunswick, to the late John and Winifred (Boone)Smith. He graduated from Canterbury Regional High School in 1956 andembarked on a career in stationary engineering that took him and hisfamily to England, Africa and various parts of Canada. Hedleygraduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1984 as amechanical engineer, attaining this mid-life achievement as the oldestmember of his graduating class. He was licenced as a professionalengineer in the same year and established his engineering firm withhis daughter September in the following year. Hedley was a socialmember of the Windsor Park Mess and Dart club, in Halifax. He had beenan avid curler for many years, and had a great love of world traveland adventure, be it backpacking in Europe or hiking in the JapaneseAlps. Surviving Hedley are his daughters, September Smith and Tara(Toshi) Sato; his son Jason Smith; his three grandchildren, RainShimizu-Smith, Oscar Smith-Seiger and Lilly Mackenzie Sato; his formerwife, now friend, Marlene Meddings-Smith; four sisters, Brenda(Hayward) Case, Hilda (Stephen) Foster, Emily (Tony) Palmer, and Patsy(Rick) Harten; three brothers, Dean (Carol), Gary (Barb) and Jack(Denise); his stepmother, Helen Smith, as well as numerous nieces andnephews. In lieu of a funeral service Hedley desired a Celebration ofLife, a memorial gathering of family and friends, to be held at alater date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Red Crossor charity of your choice. We would like to thank all the staff ofVictoria General Thoracic and Palliative Care departments for theirhelp and caring support.

Apparently, Samuel's wife did not share his Loyalist leaning. When hefled the homestead at Exeter with his father and brother, she remainedbehind. Because of his absence and her dire need for assistance, sheapplied to the Town for an allotment. R.I records, vol 10 pp 178 -that the said Town Council of North Kingstown petitions the GeneralAssembly at the session of Dec 1781 praying for an allowance forsupport of said Margaret and £10 was allowed to be paid into the Towntreasury out of the rents of the said estate; that the said allowancehas been continued since up to the 25th of March, 1785; that the saidMargaret continues in a miserable condition, has her youngest childwith her, and is a real object of charity, the Town Council prayedthat the said grant be continued for the support for the coming year.Resolved: the same be granted March, 1876.
