The passing of Mary Ellen (Lounder) Sherman occurred on November 16, 2011 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St Stephen, NB. Wife of the late Donald Andrew Sherman of McAdam, NB. Mary was born on December 7, 1939 in Vanceboro, Maine, daughter of the late Henry Lounder and the late Marion (McIver) (Lounder) Kaine.She resided in St Croix, NB for the past 27 years and was well known as the local paper delivery person for the nine years leading up to her retirement.Survived by her four children, Eric Lounder (Ruth) of Searsport, Me., Lisa Sutherland of St Croix, NB, Kevin Hartin of Cold Lake, AB., Tara Lindell of Edmonton, AB., two granddaughters, Jennifer Sutherland (Brian) of Sussex, NB, Danielle Sutherland of Fredericton, NB, her only brother, David Lounder (Glad) of Johnson City, Tenn., stepmother, Effie Lounder of Fredericton, NB.Mary was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her step father, Charles Kaine.Funeral service will be held at St Paul's United Church, McAdam, NB on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2 PM. Funeral service was held at the Canterbury United Church for the late Mrs. Bessie Shannon. Mrs. Shannon passed away at the Carleton Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for six weeks. Born at Canterbury 70 years ago, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Hilda (Grant) Smith. Her husband, F. Earl Shannon, predeceased her nine months ago.
Mrs. Shannon is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Graham (Claudia), Canterbury; one son, Charles Shannon, Canterbury; four brothers, Ralph Smith, Lindsay, Ontario; Frank Smith, Ladysmith, B.C.; Arthur Smith, Georgetown, Delaware; John Smith, Nashwaaksis; four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Flewelling, Fredericton; Mrs. Evelyn Lewis, Hartland; Mrs. Ethel Graham, Fredericton; and Mrs. Laura Pineo, Onguniquit, Maine; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The remains rested at her home where prayers were said for the family before the church service. Rev. William Hendry officiated at the service assisted by the church choir. Pallbearers were grandchildren and nephews of Mrs. Shannon: Raymond Shannon, Winston Shannon, Clayton Graham, Roy Graham, John Smith and Ronald Smith.

Interment took place in Canterbury cemetery.

The passing of Doris Helen Smith of Charters Settlement, NB, occurred at York Manor Nursing Home, Fredericton, on Wednesday June 18, 2003. Born July 9, 1918 at North Lake, NB, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Cosman Smith and Amey Etta (Boardman) Smith. She was a retired teacher having taught school in New Brunwick. She was also employed with the Compensation Board in Saint John, NB Baptist by faith, she was a member of the Skyline Acres Baptist Church, a member of the Mary and Martha Group at the church and she was a member of the Canadian Baptist Overseas Mission Board.
Survived by a sister, Myra Gladys Smith; two nieces, Judy McWaid (George) of McLeod Hill and Corliss Pyne of Charters Settlement; great nieces and nephews and two great great nieces.Predeceased by her parents, a sister, Shirley Louise Pyne and a nephew A. Charles Pyne II. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock road, Fredericton on Friday evening from 7-9 pm. A wedding of interest was solemnized in the church at Eel River Lake on June 6th when Dorothy Marie Smith, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Eric Smith, and Norman Roland Bronson, son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Bronson, Beebe, Que., were united in marriage by Mr. Mark Bredin of NB Bible Institute, Victoria, NB by a double ring ceremony.
The church was prettily decorated with purple and white lilacs and ferns.
Miss Edna Jennea of NBBI was guest organist and Mr Joseph Wootton, also of NBBI was guest soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was becomingly gowned in a floor length dress, with slight train of white brocaded taffeta and net; the fitted bodice was decorated at the neckline with pearls and rhinestones and had long fitted sleeves. The skirt was full with tiers of flunces, leaving a straight front panel. She wore an elbow length veil, held in place by a tiara of pearls and sequins and she carried a bouquet of pink roses on a white Bible with pink streamers and rosebuds.
She was attended by her sister, Miss Alma Smith, who wore a ballerina length gown of blue chiffon and lace over taffeta with white accessories and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink and white carnations.
Little Beverly Anderson, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a short yellow dress of flocked nylon with white head dress and gloves and carried a basket of mixed tulips.
Clinton Boone, of Florenceville, was the groomsman.
Charles Atkinson, cousing of the bride, and Donald Sequin, brother-in-law of the groom, were the ushers.
The bride's mother wore a two piece dress of blue silk with blue and white accessories and the groom's mother wore a two piece dress of black and white arnel with white accessories and both wore a corsage of red roses.
The reception was held in the United Church Vestry at Canterbury, where seventy-five guests were present.
Miss Doris Smith of Saint John and Mrs Charles Atkinson served the bride's table while the ladies of the church served the guests. Mrs Ralph Sypher of Newcastle Creek presided at the tea table. Miss Ardis Boone, cousin of the bride, circulated the guestbook.
Aftern an old fashioned charivari the happy couple left for a short honeymoon to St. Stephen and St. Andrews. For travelling the bride wore a grey tweed wool suit with pink accessories.
The bride is a graduate of Canterbury Regional High School, also of NBBI and Teacher's College and teh groom is a graduate of Beebe High school and NBBI. They will be working this summer at Frontier Lodge, a christian camp for young people and children, and later take a pasorate in Ayers Cliff, Quebec.
They were the recipients of many beautiful gifts. Guests were from Eel River Lake, Canterbury, Newcastle Creek, Fredericton, St. John, Harvey, Woodstock, Victoria, Philadelphia and Quebec.

Gary Charles Smith - Age 85, of Bridgewater NS, passed away peacefully and with family at his side on April 27, 2022. Born in Canterbury NB, Gary was the son of John and Winnifred (Boone) Smith, and the stepson of Helen (Grant) Smith.Gary was an Honorary (retired) member of the Bridgewater Fire Department where he served from 1979-1996, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 Bridgewater, and a member of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve - Militia (from 1961 until Honourably Released in 1992 with the rank of Major).Gary loved working with wood, and was a skilled craftsman. Many members of his family have treasured personalized pieces that he created and gifted over the years. He also spent a great many hours helping his children and their spouses with home renovations and repairs.In his younger years, Gary enjoyed trout fishing with his daughters, and hunting with his Dad, brothers, son-in-law, and other family members. He spent many years training militia cadets for future military service - with the Nova Scotia Highlanders and the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Family camping trips were always an adventure in the old school bus Gary converted to a camper in 1969/70. He was a founding member and first president of the District 13 Recreation and Planning Commission in Thorburn NS and was one of the leading forces behind the building of the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Arena. Gary enjoyed working on the annual Poppy Campaign with the Bridgewater Legion, and various Bridgewater Fire Department activities including the Firemen’s Breakfast.Most of Gary’s working years were as an independent Insurance Adjuster, the last nine as owner of his own company. In 2004, he came out of retirement to work for Napa Auto Parts as a delivery driver, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed.Gary was predeceased by both of his parents, his stepmother, his youngest daughter Kelli, and younger brothers, Hedley and Jackie.He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Shelli (Jack) and Kim (Bruce); grandchildren, Brian, Amanda, Adam, Hannah and Cicely; seven great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; brother, Dean (Carol); sisters, Brenda (Hayward), Hilda (Steve), Emily (Tony), and Patsy (Rick), and a huge extended family.When asked .... “If I could live my life over again, I wouldâ€�.... Gary responded .... “Do exactly as I did the first time aroundâ€�. His unfinished work? ... “various woodworking projects - I got lazy!â€� Gary wants his family to remember him for his ability to create something meaningful from a simple piece of lumber. Hedley W. Smith, 68, owner and president of H&S Smith Engineering Services Ltd., died peacefully on December 15, 2006, after a mercifully short battle with cancer. Hedley was born in 1938 in Canterbury, New Brunswick, to the late John and Winifred (Boone) Smith. He graduated from Canterbury Regional High School in 1956 and embarked on a career in stationary engineering that took him and his family to England, Africa and various parts of Canada. Hedley graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1984 as a mechanical engineer, attaining this mid-life achievement as the oldest member of his graduating class. He was licenced as a professional engineer in the same year and established his engineering firm with his daughter September in the following year. Hedley was a social member of the Windsor Park Mess and Dart club, in Halifax. He had been an avid curler for many years, and had a great love of world travel and adventure, be it backpacking in Europe or hiking in the Japanese Alps. Surviving Hedley are his daughters, September Smith and Tara (Toshi) Sato; his son Jason Smith; his three grandchildren, Rain Shimizu-Smith, Oscar Smith-Seiger and Lilly Mackenzie Sato; his former wife, now friend, Marlene Meddings-Smith; four sisters, Brenda (Hayward) Case, Hilda (Stephen) Foster, Emily (Tony) Palmer, and Patsy (Rick) Harten; three brothers, Dean (Carol), Gary (Barb) and Jack (Denise); his stepmother, Helen Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of a funeral service Hedley desired a Celebration of Life, a memorial gathering of family and friends, to be held at a later date. McAdam, August 8, 1929 - Explosions of dynamite within a few miles of this town this afternoon caused two deaths and severely injured a third man.
The dead are ex-Councillor Hugh W. Smith, superintendent of road construction at Canterbury and George Embleton, of York Mills, foreman in charge of a crew of road construction men on the Harvey Highway. Roy Christie was injured in the blast.
Ex-councillor Smith was the superintendent in charge of a crew working on the road about a mile and a half from town. The inaction of the fuse attached to a charge of dynamite he was employing to remove an obstacle on the highway prompted Smith to reset the charge The explosion occurred while he was doing this. He was instantly killed. Dr. J.F. Brown of Woodstock was called but found the victim already dead. The body was taken to his home.
The foreman, who was nearest to the charge, received the greater force of the explosion and was knocked headlong to the road. Christie, a workman, was hurled forcibly to the ground and received severe injuries. He was taken to the construction camp. The foreman was removed to McAdam but was pronounced dead by Dr. Roy M. MacLean immediately after being admitted to the hospital.
The doctor went to the construction camp and treated the injured workman, who was not considered to be in dangerous condition.
Both the deceased were prominent in their respective communities. Embleton is survived by his wife and family.
Ex-Councillor Smith is a well-known farmer and lumberman. He was 66 years of age and leaves to mourn, besides his widow, five sons, five daughters and four brothers.
His funeral was held in Canterbury Saturday afternoon from the Baptist church, Rev. H. Hatfield officiated at the service, which was largely attended with a gathering from Woodstock, Houlton, Fredericton, Forest City and elsewhere.
The pallbearers, Roy Ross, Ray and Donald Smith, of Woodstock, and Harry and George Smith of Canterbury, all nephews of the deceased.

Apparently, Samuel's wife did not share his Loyalist leaning. When he fled the homestead at Exeter with his father and brother, she remained behind. Because of his absence and her dire need for assistance, she applied to the Town for an allotment. R.I records, vol 10 pp 178 - that the said Town Council of North Kingstown petitions the General Assembly at the session of Dec 1781 praying for an allowance for sujpport of said Margaret and £10 was allowed to be paid into the Town treasury out of the rents of the said estate; that the said allowance has been continued since up to the 25th of March, 1785; that the said Margaret continues in a miserable condition, has her youngest child with her, and is a real object of charity, the Town Council prayed that the said grant be continued for the support for the coming year. Resolved: the same be granted March, 1876.Samuel and some of the older children removed to New Brunswick in 1783.

The passing of Myra Gladys Smith occurred at York Manor Nursing Home, Fredericton, on Thursday, April 22, 2010. She was 90. Born at North Lake, NB on December 30, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Cosman and Amey Etta (Boardman) Smith. Myra was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by nieces Judith McWaid (George) of Slave Lake, Alberta and Corliss Pyne (late Charles) of Fredericton as well as great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephew. Predeceased by her parents and sisters Shirley Louise Pyne and Doris Helen Smith. There will be no visitation and no formal funeral service. A wedding of interest to friends and relatives took place at the United Church parsonage, Marysville, on August 3rd [1946] when Rev W.S. Loring united in marriage Shirley Louise, daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Smith, and Arthur Charles, son of Mrs William Pyne and the late William Pyne, of Marysville. The bride was given in marriage by her father and wore a street length dress of pale blue silk jersey with black sequin hat and black accessories and carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, the gift of the groom. Mrs Myles Newman, sister of the groom, was matron of honor and she wore rose crepe with black accessories and carried an old fashioned nosegay. Myles Newman was groomsman. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's home, one hundred guests being present. The bride's table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a three-tier wedding cake surmounted by a miniature bride and groom. For traveling the bride wore a coconut green suit with black accessories. The bride is on the staff of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and the groom is employed with the NB Telephone co.

Born at North Lake, NB, she was the daugher of the late Floyd Cosman Smith and Amey Etta (Boardman) Smith. Shirely was a retired legal secretary.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris Helen Smith and Myra Gladys Smith, both of Fredericton; a son, A Charles Pyne and wife Corliss of Charters Settlement, NB; a daughter, Judith Anne McWaid and husband George of McLeod Hill, NB; four grandchildren, Joseph Jardany of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Aruthur Charles Pyne III and wife Rebecca of Fredericton, Amy Louise Jardany of Halifax, NS and Laura Maude Shirley Pyne of Charter's Settlement; a great granddaughter, Cassandra Lynn Pyne of Fredericton.

It is with great sadness that the family of Vida I. Anderson of Hanwell, NB, announce her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on May 13, 2012. She was 88. Born in Eel River Lake, NB, she was the daughter of the late Eric and Ruby (McMinn) Smith and wife of the late Dawson Anderson. Vida was a very active member of the Hanwell Community Church, having helped break the ground on the new facility. She retired in 1987 from UNB where she was employed as a receptionist. She is survived by her two children Beverley Morgan (Neil) and Lloyd (Nadine); daughter-in-law Deanna Anderson all of Hanwell, NB; four grandchildren Paula McCall (Joseph) of Calgary, Leah Morgan (Duston Poirier) of Fredericton, Anita Niles (Larry) of Harvey, and Edison Anderson (Shelley) of Fredericton; four great grandchildren Bradley MacDonald, Madison McCall, Noah and Caleb Anderson; sisters Alma Smith of Miramichi and Dorothy Grindall (Ansel) of Waterville, ME; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Gary, a brother Blair and his wife Freda.
